As I’ve mentioned, I am not mechanically inclined. In the past, I have a) hated working on my truck and b) just done a “good enough” job.
But, that was back when I did all my work exclusivly in my parents driveway. Now that it lives at my new place, I’ve discovered I LOVE working on it! Having your own space, own tools, shade and beer/cold brew coffee on hand really makes things way better.
Not to mention, the floor in my garage is mopped bi-weekly and it is cool to lay on and smooth. Not a dirty, scratchy driveway.
So today, I replaced the transmission gasket, filter and did an oil change. First time doing a transmission pan gasket and first oil change at my place.
Got it up on my rhino ramps:
Spilled ATF all over:
Degreased, power-washed and sanded the transmission pan:
Gave it some enamel paint (3 coats):
Reinstalled with no leaks!

Nice work, also love the way the exhaust snakes around just for this job.

Well done!

Nicely done! I have much more spa e than you, but your garage floor is magnificent. I am jealous of that!

Man I love the way light bounces around your garage, especially under the truck.

I'm still in a townhouse unfortunately (likely forever) but I am lucky to have even this amount of room!

Yeah, I know housing costs in your region are out of control.

Same, white walls was the best choice I made. The reflective floor and the bright lights really makes it feel clean and functional

$650K for a townhouse with a garage next to a homeless shelter in the ass end of Metro Vancouver.
Fucking insane.

Jeez, that fluid didn’t even look dirty*

It wasn’t. It was leaking unfortunately. The idiots I hired at my local redneck garage messed it up last year.

I’ve pretty much determined that good help does not exist.

Nice! Couple of things:
Drive the truck so the wheels are at the end of the ramps, they’re half way up in the pic. Second, get whee l chocs to pre vent the truck from moving (precaution). I’m kinda a stickler for this stuff cuz when you’re under a Cayman with 4" of ground clearance , you sure don’t want any mishaps.

There are chocks, the drivers side was pretty much at the top, but the other...not so much.
It was a challenge getting it up on there, they were very slidy on my floor. I did do a safety check (shaking the shit out of the truck) prior to getting under there.

I am coming to that conclusion as well.

Not trying to be an asshole, just wanna point out that safety is important. I enjoy wrenching more when I’m not concerned about the damned car crushing me :)

No worries! I am all about safety. Not gonna be that guy who dies in my garage.

Fixing an old leaky pickup truck, sticking out onto your driveway, in view of the neighbors?
Complaint letter from the HOA to be delivered in 3...2....1....
![]() 07/28/2020 at 13:37 |

I had a couple complaints already in my time living here, but I got to know the president of the HOA and the complaints have stopped.
I generally try to keep all the “repair activity” and associated materials/mess/equipment out of site.

They would prefer it out of site! :) Buy yes, keeping it out of sight once your done usually helps. Your place looks impeccable so I am just goofing on HOA’s, not you.
As far as getting to know the president, it appears you did the right thing there as well. Good luck!

Gadamn. That’s insane.
$190k, 4-bedroom, 2-bath bungalow on a corner lot, with a 2-1/2 car detached garage and plenty of driveway. Admittedly I bought near the bottom of the market, and the house needed work. For what you paid, even after converting to USD, I could have bought the giant mcmansion down the street with two driveways, a 3-car attached garage, a giant deck, on a double lot.

This. I had a car fall of a jack once. I wasn’t under it, was doing brake pads at the time. It was sort of a slow fall as it had to roll the rear wheels against the parking brake. Never again.

I mean you could. It’s not a bad way to go, just so you aren’t under the truck when you go!

:(
I was so close to convincing my wife to move. Cash out of here, move somewhere you can buy a fancy house (I have a fantasy where I live in a house with a name, like ______ manor” for half a mil and be way better off.
But no dice.

If you two have kids, I bet she’ll change her tune. I’ve seen that story play out many times.
